An Equality and Diversity specialist, Bennett joined the former Metropolitan Police Authority in 2004 and worked there for 8 years as the lead officer for Stop and Search and Hate Crime.  From 2012 he worked for the Mayor of London’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as Equality and Diversity Officer and is now a private consultant on matters relating to equality and diversity in the criminal justice system.  Bennett lives in Haringey and joined HISSMG in 2013.  His specialism has proved particularly useful in monitoring police stop and search statistics for evidence of racial disproportionality in the numbers of stops and searches involving black people.  Bennett’s hope is that, through improved policing practices and better training, to increase the trust of BME communities in the police.
