Having an uncle (Ken) who’s Chair of the monitoring group hasn’t prevented Jon from being unfairly stopped and searched, or occasionally coming into conflict with the police as a result.

Jon joined HISSMG in 2014 to help ensure that young people’s perspective is heard during meetings with the police at borough command level.  Jon believes that the police need to be better trained in how to communicate with young people respectfully and professionally, particularly when young people complain about unfair treatment during a search. Jon helped HISSMG compile the ‘top 5 tips’ for helping young people avoid confrontation and conflict during stop and search encounters with the police.

Jon would like more young people to join HISSMG, so if you’re interested, email him at
